Earthquake updates from March 11, 2011

Good Morning,

We are fine. We had a major earthquake (8.9) off the coast of Japan at 2:50 local time. We definitely felt the quake but are so Thankful to God that we are fine. We are in the midst of the aftermath which has been extensive. The 2 major airports have been shut down and we currently have 11 commercial planes on Yokota's tarmac. Aaron has been put on alert and because his squadron is the only airlift squadron on mainland Japan, I am sure he will be extremely busy very soon.

We had minor damage on base, it was a 5.1 here on base, but have 24 earthquakes in the last 5 hours. We have been a rockin around here. I am headed to volunteer with the Red Cross soon.

Please, pray for Japan, it is a dark day, with many terrible days to follow. There is massive devastation everywhere and it will be a long time before things are any semblance of normal. Thank you for your prayers for us and we will keep you posted when and if things happens around here. If you would like to call, that is fine. I can't say if the phone lines are going to be very stable, but please know we are safe and fine.

Love to all,
Amanda

update-so we live in Japan and had a bumpy day. We had a major earthquake with 24 aftershocks. All buildings are undamaged here on base. Yokota is a divergent airport for the international airports and we currently have 11 commercial flights here and I am working with the Red Cross getting evacuees taken care of. Aaron is on alert for humanitarian efforts. Tis been a stressful day but GOD IS REALLY HERE. Please continue to pray for us, it's going to be a long couple of days and weeks. Will update later. Love to all.
