Update, Monday 21

Well, another day, little but positive change in much the environmental conditions. It rained today so really it's like we were showered off a little. The air continues to improve, the planes continue to fly and progress continues up north for those who need it.

My updates will continue, but not as often and will be more about rescue attempts and ways we can help those who need it. For so many reasons, I have fallen in love with the people here in Japan. It is well documented that there is no looting and people are very content waiting in line for hours for much needed supplies. They are happy to share what they have with anyone because they understand it's not about them, that everyone is suffering, everyone is cold, everyone needs someone to show them kindness. Wow, we Americans can really learn from that. How much better would it be if we took a back seat to our own needs and helped someone even if it meant that it might delay us or change or schedule in some way.

My challenge while here in Japan has been to see outside myself, to allow God to change my schedule or my day so I can be a "Japanese friend" to someone. It is necessary when we feel selfish to force ourselves to find something simple to do for someone else. Things like leaving a little extra tip, or leaving flowers on someones doorstep anonymously, or drop by someones house, knock on their door and (as they say in the south) hug their neck. It takes a little extra time, but it's so essential to make this place work.

So I dare you to do that today, find someone, allow that interruption in your schedule, show some kindness, be less selfish. It feels really good, and it's so necessary.
