So today was a beautiful day again. It is a blessing and is a fabulous way to start days with unknown events unfolding. Winds were still stiff, but not as bad. The big decision still facing all here at Yokota is evacuation or staying home.
The latest on that:
It is still voluntary. I have heard that we will either go to South Korea or the home of record which would be Colorado for us. The times and dates are still to be determined, but within the next 2 days, people should be leaving if they choose.
Many are choosing to fly commercial and some are leaving today with more to follow this weekend.
Mode of transport for those who choose to evacuate us still unknown.
Teachers are required to stay on base because they are considered essential personnel. They are able to travel for up to 3 days without consequence, after that, they are considered AWAL and will be fired. If there is a mandatory evacuation, the teachers will be evacuated to the areas that need teachers the most and they will continue teaching.
As for the Miner's? Aaron and I have talked about it, he left the decision up to me, I spent the last couple of days really praying about direction for the 3 of us girls knowing Aaron will not be evacuated.
1. Sarah is in school and progressing really well, she is learning tons and if we leave, I will be the one taking charge of her education until we return-YIKES!!
2. The return date is not confirmed, but could be longer that 30 days.
3. The air is safe, water uncontaminated and beds are soft and warm not to mention gas for the cars and food for our belly.
4. Being able to see Aaron when he is home.
5. We should be able to go to China in April for Spring Break
The choice for us has been easy, I am comfortable staying here with the kids and our friends that choose the same. If evacuations become mandatory, I will try my hardest to go to Okinawa and stay with Marji and her family.
Planes are still being tested for radiation and so far so good! Everyone has been very professional and take this very seriously. The leadership has been cracking down on rumors and again we had a briefing from Col Feather and although I was not able to hear it, I am sure it was reassuring and addressed fears.
EQ relief has been named Operation Tomodachi, translated Operation Friendship. I have not followed the news today so I am not sure the status of the reactors, but so far we are well.
That's it for now, quick update, but that means not much happened!!

We have noticed over the years how well you handle an emergency and operate "under fire". From the trips to the emergency room with the kids, to saving a life at a wreck on the highway. Now you are helping your family and those around you deal with a 9.0 earthquake and Tsunami.
You may not realize it but maybe your ability to survey the seen, size up the situation and take action is in your blood.
Starting with your great, great, grand father Dr. Napier a (Confederate Army surgeon), your Grand mother Martha (Civil Defense in WWII, American Red Cross and Fire Fighter), Your uncle Rex (Fire Fighter, EMT), your uncle Kent (Fire Fighter, EMT), cousin Rodney (Paramedic), and your brother Ben (Search and Rescue) along with your training and work as a Registered Pediatrics Nurse and American Red Cross.
Keeping a cool head along with the ability to objectively and appropriately respond under pressure is a god given gift you caringly share with those in need.
We speak for those family members ahead of you, the people that you have helped, the people you have torched and the lives you have saved.
